# Face Lock (Identity Preservation)

## Definition

**Face Lock** is a [[concept-claude-skills-d1]] technique that injects explicit *identity preservation language* into every prompt passed to the image generator (via [[concept-higgsfield-mcp]]) so the creator's face stays consistent across thumbnail variations.

## The problem it solves

When you ask any image model to change lighting, style, clothing, or background, it tends to silently drift the subject's facial features — different jawline, different eye spacing, different age. For personal-brand YouTube thumbnails this is catastrophic: viewers stop recognizing you at thumbnail scale.

## The technique

The Skill prompt includes language that:

1. Designates a specific reference image as the **canonical identity**.
2. Instructs the model to treat that identity as immutable across all variations.
3. Overrides the model's default tendency to re-render faces.

Combined with brand typography rules, this becomes the **Face-Locked Thumbnail Skill** — see [[action-build-thumbnail-skill]].

## Result

Dozens of thumbnail variants (different backgrounds, hooks, expressions, color schemes) all featuring a recognizable, on-model face — replacing manual Photoshop cleanup.

## Caveat (from enrichment)

Identity preservation in generative image models is a known practice (reference-image conditioning, LoRA fine-tuning, vendor "keep subject" flags). Practitioners broadly report it works *most of the time but not always* — pose, lighting, and style shifts can still cause drift requiring manual curation. Also note the ethical dimension: face-locking other people without consent, or generating misleading depictions, can run afoul of platform synthetic-media policies.
