# The Goal of AI-Native Education

## Quote

> You need to be proficient and also independent. Not one or the other.

## Source

[[entity-nate-b-jones]] summarizing the philosophy of [[entity-andrej-karpathy-d10]] for [[entity-org-eureka-labs]].

## Significance

This is the philosophical north star of the entire vault. It rejects two false simplifications:

1. The techno-utopian view that AI proficiency alone is the goal
2. The Luddite view that AI independence (avoidance) alone is the goal

The correct goal is the *both/and*: deeply fluent in AI use **and** capable of operating without it. This dual capability is the operational definition of [[framework-nate-7-principles]] and the implicit target of all [[claim-manual-struggle-required]] interventions.
